The Terroir

Our vineyards are situated in the lands of the ancient Tukmanao, where the soil by the mountains is shallow, frank-sandy, stony, and with little organic matter. We enjoy over 320 days a year of diaphanous, clear skies, and an omnipresent sun which optimizes photosynthesis. The unique atmospheric temperature range of the region defies biology and produces a very sophisticated biotype in our vines. Radiant sunny days and cool nights safeguard the profound colors, the fragrances, and the intense flavor of our grapes.

The hydric stress causes our grapes to adapt and concentrate their flavor, fragrance, and color in the most remarkable way. Soft winds avoid the accumulation of humidity on the grapes, and the lack of rain inhibits the proliferation of fungi, thus allowing for fungicide- and insecticide-free farming. In our estates of Angastaco and Huacalera the crops are irrigated by a system of acequias, whereas in Tolombón by drip irrigation.

The weather conditions of these valleys and their awe-inspiring geology intensify the metabolism of the colorful and flavorful fruits its soils produce. Between two and three thousand years ago, in these very valleys, mankind became sedentary and learned how to work the land. Today, the provide one of the best environments for the production of unique types of grape.



Normally, "high-altitude vineyards" are considered to be those located over 1200 meters (about 4000 feet) above sea level. Argentina has several high altitude you could try here wine regions such as Valle de Uco (Mendoza, 1200 masl), El Pedernal (San Juan, 1340 masl), Famatina (La Rioja, 1400 masl), Fiamalá, Tinogasta, and Santa María (Catamarca, between 1500 and 2200 masl), and our Calchaquí Valleys, which include areas that rise between 1700 and 2200 meters above sea level in Cafayate, Tolombón, Yacochuya, Colomé, San Carlos, Angastaco, and Molinos.

The area where high altitude vines grow presents diaphanous skies, fresh and pure mountain air, a great atmospheric temperature range between day and night, and an average yearly temperature of 18 Celsius (65 F). These are the unique characteristics that make the wonderful Calchaquí Valleys a privileged spot for the production of the finest quality grapes.



Tolombón is located in the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys, at 1,700 meters above sea level. Some of its features are low rainfall, windy days and sandy soils with little organic matter. On the slopes of Acay Chuscha of Cachi and snowmelt waters flow. The soft evening breeze makes them very healthy vineyards and allows the grapes to ripen in ideal conditions.

Many hours of sunshine, significant thermal amplitudes, porous, generous and permeable soils, give rise to a unique environment for the maturation of good grapes.

Under these conditions, the plant metabolism is enhanced and results in fruit with great flavor and taste, a wine with a strong character, through the work of man, becomes elegant, fine and complex. The wines of Tolombón are noted for their great personality and authenticity.



Deep soils, rich in organic matter, medium-textured and dark colors: Angastaco soils are among the most fertile in the valleys Calchaquies. The weather, sunny and windy throughout the year, is very healthy for the vines, they mature slowly. The irrigation system is mantle: comes from the waters that come down from the foothills and form the river Angastaco, where channels are driven by hand-built stone from the Inca period.

Our Torrontés is over 40 years old. Rootstock planted and trained in a vine, it is naturally fertalized by flocks of grazing sheep, the perfect coexistance.


Colalao del Valle

In the Northwest of the Tucumán province, in the central area of the Calchaquí Valley, we find Colalao del Valle, a wine region which is known for being one of the highest areas of the world wine production.

The climate of the region is characterized by cold winters and hot, mostly dry summers with lots of sun exposure. The soil is sandy, permeable, clean and deep. Drip irrigation drip is utilized in most cases, always from pure snow melt, which favors the purity of the grape, and results in unique wines.
